A full ecommerce site must maintain the previously advised design standards whilst extending the content site to include more extensive functionality. It will also incorporate the ability for the customer to transact online with you.

In addition to searching through your products and services catalogue they will be able to select items for purchase, upgrade or select related items and make payment. The customer will expect to transact in a secure manner with you to make payment for these services and perhaps be able to track the progress of their order.

Customer service should not be overlooked and typically there will be an option to review your Frequently Asked Questions and answer many of their own enquiries or amend their own records online.

With this added functionality there once again comes an additional responsibility on your business.  You will need to keep customers data and payment records absolutely secure.    You will also need to ensure that the goods are despatched and arrive in the expected timescales.
